Album Notes:

"The Nicky Kay Orchestra (NKO) is the 2012 project from Dayton artist Nick Kizirnis. Nick has had a long & varied music career with past projects such as Nicky Kay and His Fabulous Kay-Tones, The Nick Kizirnis Band, The Mulchmen, The Obvious and as a member of Tobin Sprout's Eyes in Weasel. As with Nick's Mulchmen band, The Nicky Kay Orchestra is an instrumental group which offers a nice blend of surf, exotica and tiki music. The songs on NKO's first release, Barrier Reef, are a mixture of both older Mulchmen material fleshed out with a larger band and several new original tunes. NKO members include Kizirnis & Dennis Mullins on guitars, Brian Hogarth on bass, Ed Lacy and Tom Salvatierra playing keyboards, Elizabeth Landis on violin and former Guided By Voices and Breeders member Jim MacPherson on drums."

Rockabilly Ball - Seattle 2005

OK, obviously this is not an upcoming show, but I just re-discovered these photos of the Fabulous Kay-Tones featuring Maery Lanahan in Seattle and wanted to share a few, courtesy of http://www.forceweb.com/.

This was a unique show for the Kay-Tones. Maery, who had recently moved to Seattle, fronted the band at the "Women in Rockabilly" night, Crazy Joe played electric bass, and long-time friend and musical collaborator Tom Vandervort played drums.

I think we had all of one practice, earlier that day at a very nice home owned by a friend of Tom's. We also spent time with our friend Shannon, and good buddy Andy Valeri who just happened to be in town at the time.

It was a great night, we had a blast and Crazy Joe later tore up the joint with his own band, the Mad River Outlaws.

Although the Kay-Tones have been dormant for some time now, we collected a lot of great experiences and memories. I just thought I would share this one.
